ANNOUNCEMENTS & PUBLIC NOTICES

We will post all public notices on this page.

To our community members, passengers, employees and partners:

The Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority values its place in this community and the environment.  We view our responsibilities to you with the utmost importance.

The health and safety of those that use the airport and our neighbors around the airport are our priority. The airport has always worked closely with all of our tenants and users to ensure operations are conducted to comply with all environmental permits and requirements.

The use of fire-fighting material known as AFFF is a FAA requirement. This material, which is specified by the FAA, is used for firefighting emergencies, testing, and training.

Over the past year, airports around the country have become aware of the potential for PFAS contamination from these products. The Ford Airport took proactive steps by voluntarily moving to the FAA-certified AFFF that is the most environmentally-responsible material. We will continue to monitor and implement industry environmental best practices.

It is important to note - we have had no complaints nor any evidence regarding PFAS contamination directly related to our airport. We have been in contact with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality as we work in collaboration to investigate this concern further.

Please call the Michigan DEQ for specific environmental questions at 1.800.662.9278.  Airport-specific questions can be addressed by calling 616-233-7274 or emailing gfiainfo@grr.org.
